Sri Lanka

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has actually specified that it is necessary that the 2023 Local Government (LG) election be held, in order to support the rights of the people.Speaking to the media in Kandy today (24 Feb.), Rajapaksa mentioned that it is the Governments task to hold the election regardless of the ongoing crisis, as it is the only way in which the peoples needs can be determined.

We knew how to win, the present federal government is not exactly sure whether or not they will win , the former Head of State informed reporters when asked how the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) managed to hold elections with no posts ponement throughout their tenure.Meanwhile, when questioned on his viewpoint relating to the full application of the 13th Amendment, Rajapaksa stated that although the existing government believes that such a legislature is required, the SLPP does not share the exact same idea.

We do not believe it is necessary , he informed reporters when questioned.
