Nearly 20 individuals who were injured during todays protest staged by the National Peoples Power (NPP) were given the National Hospital in Colombo for treatment.

Appropriately, healthcare facility sources confirmed that those hurt during the protest were brought for treatment after tear gas and water cannons were fired in efforts to distribute the protesters.

Authorities had fired tear gas and water cannons to distribute the group of protesters at Ibbanwala Junction near Town Hall in Colombo during the presentation organized by the National Peoples Power (NPP) earlier today (26 Feb.).

The roadway leading from the Nelum Pokuna Theatre towards Town Hall was also completely obstructed due to the demonstration.

The political party required to the streets today in the middle of two court orders being released by both the Fort Magistrates Court and the Maligakanda Magistrates Court, preventing an overall of 26 individuals, consisting of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake from entering numerous areas in Colombo throughout the protest.

The NPP protest is being staged versus the government and requiring the holding of elections without delay.
