The Kalutara High Court today (10) served the death sentence on three convicts who were found guilty of a murder that took place 32 years ago, and handed a 10-year rigorous imprisonment to another convict.The three individuals have been convicted of an incident of attacking a person to death with clubs in the Keeranthidiya area in January 1992.Welipenna Police had arrested the relevant suspects in relation to the crime and produced them before Mathugama Magistrate’s Court.

Following the hearing of preliminary evidence, the Attorney General had filed indictments against the suspects before the Kalutara High Court, Ada Derana reporter said.The individuals who were death-sentenced were the third, fourth and fifth accused in the case, and the court sentenced the first accused to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and ordered him to pay a compensation of Rs.

300,000.

The court also ordered that he be sentenced to two additional years in prison in the event of his failure to pay the fine.Meanwhile, it has been revealed before the court that the second accused in the case has died of cancer.
