The Uruguayan government, led by President Luis Lacalle Pou, has declared an end to the water emergency instituted earlier this year, following an extensive drought that notably impacted the capital and its surrounding regions.Recent rainfall in the affected areas has replenished water reserves and streams that are vital for public consumption.At an event at the Paraguayan Embassy in Uruguay, Lacalle Pou revealed that the decree terminating the emergency, which he signed on August 22nd, came after the state incurred an approximate expense of US$70 million due to the drought.Furthermore, the president acknowledged a marked improvement in water quality provided by the state’s water company, which had previously shown elevated salinity and chloride levels as a result of sourcing water from the Río de la Plata estuary.
