The Tiruppur authorities have claimed that oxygen supply to the ICU was not affected by the power cut.

(PTI file photo)Two Covid-19 patients allegedly died at the Tiruppur government hospital in Tamil Nadu after a power outage cut off their oxygen supply on Tuesday.Both patients were admitted to the ICU at the government hospital.Construction work has been underway to build a medical college in the hospital complex and during this work some wires were cut off, causing that led to a power failure in the hospital.As a result, the oxygen supply to the ICU was affected.The families of deceased have alleged that the lack of oxygen supply was the reason for the death of the two patients -- Yashoda, 67 and Gauravan, 59.Sevanthy, the daughter-in-law of Gauravan told India Today TV, “My father-in-law was recovering well.

He even spoke to us today in the morning.

But then there was a power failure for over forty minutes and suddenly he died.

It is the failure of the hospital.

They are not giving proper care to the patients.”Similarly, Yasodha’s nephew alleged that his aunt passed away due to negligence by the authorities.

“She was recovering and the failure in oxygen supply caused her death.

The hospital staff has been so lethargic in their replies.

There is no value for life.”After the incident, Tiruppur collector Dr Vijaykarthikeyan reached the spot and inspected the place.

He said that the contractors and engineers on the spot have been given notice and an investigation has been ordered.The collector has also stated that the oxygen supply to the ICU was provided without interruption with the help of backup power but the two patients who died had some difficulties and inquiry into this is underway.DMK chief MK Stalin, meanwhile, has alleged that the Tamil Nadu government is responsible for the deaths.“In addition to the corona deaths, the state's negligent deaths have also increased and become a government that kills people,” said Stalin in his latest tweet.
