NEW DELHI: In yet another Make in India push, the ministry of defence on Tuesday cleared three capital acquisition propositions-- including that of Helina anti-tank guided missiles-- totaling up to Rs 4,276 crore for the armed forces.The choice will boost the fight abilities of the militaries along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.The procurement propositions were cleared by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by defence minister Rajnath Singh.According to the ministry of defence declaration, among these 3 propositions, 2 are of the Indian Army and one of the Indian Navy.

The propositions are under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.

The DAC accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for procurement of Helina anti-tank directed missiles, launchers and involved support devices which will be incorporated to the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), it said.This missile is a crucial part of weaponisation of ALH for countering opponent dangers.

Its induction will enhance the offending ability of the Indian Army, the ministry stated in a statement.The DAC likewise accorded AoN for procurement of VSHORAD (IR Homing) missile system under style and development by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

In view of the recent developments along the northern borders, there is a need to focus on effective Air Defence (ADVERTISEMENT) weapon systems which are man-portable and can be released quickly in rugged terrain and maritime domain, it said.The ministry stated procurement of VSHORAD, as a robust and rapidly deployable system, will enhance the air defence capabilities.

Further, the DAC given approval for procurement of Brahmos Launcher and Fire Control System (FCS) for the Shivalik class of ships and next generation rocket vessels (NGMVs) for the Indian Navy, it stated.

With their induction, these ships would have enhanced ability of performing maritime strike operations, interdicting and destroying enemys warships and merchant vessels, the ministry added.The capital acquisition clearance comes at a time when India is secured a stand-off with China in Eastern Ladakh.

It also comes just days after Indian and Chinese troops clashed in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh, in signs of intensifying border tensions in between the nations.(With inputs from companies)
