NEW DELHI: Two Army officers lost their lives on Wednesday during a confrontation of security forces with terrorists, according to a PTI report quoting officials.

A soldier was also injured in the clash that reportedly erupted during a cordon-and-search operation in the Baji Maal area of Dharmsal in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.The intense exchange of gunfire continued as two terrorists found themselves cornered at the location.Tragically, two Army captains perished in the firefight, while a jawan sustained injuries.

He has been admitted in a hospital for medical attention.The gunfire was concentrated in the forested vicinity near the village.

Authorities have reportedly escalated the operation by deploying additional troops.Officials said that the two trapped terrorists in the Bajimaal encounter site seemed to be foreign nationals and had taken refuge at a place of worship.The border districts of Rajouri and Poonch have experienced a surge in terrorist incidents over the past year and a half.

On November 17, a terrorist was neutralised in an encounter with security forces in the Guller Behrote area of Rajouri district.

On August 7, an infiltration attempt from across the border was thwarted by the Army in the Degwar area of Poonch district, resulting in the death of a terrorist.

During an anti-terror operation in the Kesari hills of Rajouri district on May 5, five Army soldiers lost their lives.
