In a no-holds-barred interview with India Today Television, Bharatiya Janata Party national general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Bhupendra Yadav lashed out at the Opposition over the ongoing face-off in Parliament.Here are the excerpts:Poulomi Saha: The events of September 20 are unprecedented.

The suspension of eight Members of Parliament and their night-long protest inside the precincts of the temple of democracy have become a major point of debate.Bhupendra Yadav: Why were they suspended in the first place? Do we go to Rajya Sabha to sit, or to stand on the table? No educated or civilised person behaves like this.

Can someone take the Chair's papers and tear them, break his mic?As per house tradition, members don't go to the well.

Here [in this case] party leaders went, the Congress's chief whip did.

Were not they discussing the bills for four hours? What was the reason that the last speaker was Congress's and then the hungama (ruckus) started? Why this drama?Poulomi Saha: They have appealed to the President to send the contentious farm bills back to Parliament and not append his signature.Bhupendra Yadav: Should the bills be returned because the House passed them? Or, should they be returned because you broke mics? Are they going to run Parliament via hungama?If they wanted division, they could have gone back to their seats.

Not one person, whose name was called for amendment, moved the amendment from his/her seat.This is not the first time a bill has been passed in din.

They should reflect on their behaviour!Poulomi Saha: They are threatening to boycott the remainder of the monsoon session.

Short of assurances that buying farm produce below minimum support price (MSP) will be deemed illegal and even state agencies, and the Food Corporation of India (FCI) will be duty-bound to do so, they say there is no scope for compromise.Bhupendra Yadav: Yesterday, the prime minister has spoken about the MSP.

Why would anyone buy produce below the MSP? Imagine the government were to buy this mic of yours for Rs 1,500.

Why would you then go sell it for Rs 1000?When the government is buying at the MSP, why would anyone sell it for less? The government hasn't ended the MSP.

So, where is this issue coming from?The YSRCP, the BJD, smaller North-Eastern parties aren't part of National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Yet, they are all participating in the proceedings.

Only four parties come to the house and try to bulldoze it, and then call it democracy.This government is here till 2024.

Till then, there will be four Rabi and four Kharif crops.

Every time produce will be bought on the MSP.During Dr Manmohan Singh's regime, when Sharad Pawar was agriculture minister, an agriculture working group was formed that recommended scrapping of the Essential Commodities Act, and bring in a new law for free market.The MSP is [there] in writing.

How else is the government buying farm produce otherwise? Our regime has bought maximum produce under the MSP rule.

What was announced yesterday has come in written too, right? Did it fall from the skies? Why [spread] the lies then? Their lies will be exposed every six months when the government buys produce under the MSP.Poulomi Saha: They have said Deputy Chairman Harivansh's gesture this morning was a token gesture.

He arrived with cameras, so it wasn't with the right intent.Bhupendra Yadav: They misbehaved with the Deputy Chair.

You tear the papers of house proceedings and then demand voting? Harivansh didn't lose patience and kept doing his job.

As a Gandhian, he follows in the footsteps of Jai Prakash Narayan, Ram Manohar Lohia, and Karpoori Thakur.What was wrong if the Deputy Chairman reached out with tea? Did you even say once that you lost your cool on the day?The Congress can't tolerate any person who comes from the village.

Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi opposed Mandal committees in the Lok Sabha.

They didn't implement the MSP.

They don't want people, instead they want vote-banks.Are they sitting on dharna away from the cameras? The entire country is ashamed.
