HYDERABAD: A woman clasping her 18-month-old twins jumped to death from the eighth floor of her parents' flat in Bansilalpet on Monday due to alleged dowry harassment.
The woman, G Soundarya (27), and the twins, Nidarsha and Nitya, died on the spot.Based on a complaint by Soundarya's parents, Gandhi Nagar police registered a criminal case against her husband, Ganesh, under IPC sections 304 b (dowry death), 498 a (domestic violence) and Dowry Prohibition Act.Police said the couple got married in 2020 and Ganesh was given Rs 2 lakh, four tolas gold and a plot in Yadadri as dowry.
But after birth of the twins, Ganesh allegedly began harassing Soundarya for more dowry.
He allegedly thrashed Soundarya and her father, when he tried to intervene, at her parents' home recently, police said.
Soundarya subsequently moved to her parents' 2BHK flat, which they had got under the Dignity Housing Scheme.
The trigger for the suicide was a fresh argument between the couple on Monday after Soundarya met Ganesh at the salon in Padma Rao Nagar where he worked.
Soon after the argument, Soundarya returned to her parents' house, took the two children and jumped to death, police said.
