Triumph has finally taken the wraps off their latest motorcycles, the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X.

Built in collaboration with Bajaj, these motorcycles will be manufactured in India.

Both machines get an all-new engine and will be launched in India on July 5, 2023.

Once launched, these will be the smallest capacity motorcycles offered by the British two-wheeler manufacturer in India.The newly-developed 398 cc, single-cylinder motor is capable of producing a peak power of 39.4 hp and a peak torque of 37 Nm.

This liquid-cooled motor has been mated to a six-speed gearbox and gets a ride-by-wire system.

This can be handy when riding off-road.

The Speed 400 rides on 17-inch alloy wheels while the Scrambler gets a bigger 19-inch wheel at the front.

Suspension duties are handled by a 43 mm USD fork at the front and a monoshock at the back.

While the suspension hardware might be the same between the two, the Scrambler 400 X gets an additional 10 mm travel for the USD forks and 20 mm for the monoshock compared to the Speed 400.

Overall, the Scrambler 400 X is longer, taller and wider than the Speed 400.

The Scambler gets a wheelbase of 1,190 mm and has a total length of 2,117 mm while the Speed 400 gets a 1,377 mm long wheelbase and a total length of 2,056 mm.

Seat height of the Speed 400 stands at 790 mm while for the Scrambler 400 X it is 835mm.

As a result of the changes in kit, the Speed 400 weighs 170 kg and the Scrambler 400 X tips the scales at 179 kg.Triumph Scrambler 400 X exhaustSince Triumph is positioning these bikes as modern classics, they get familiar-looking design cues as their older siblings, the Speed Twin and Scrambler 900/1200.

The Speed 400 features a two-tone paint scheme and gets a prominent Triumph tank graphic.

It can be had in one of three colour options - Carnival Red, Caspian Blue and Phantom Black.

The Scrambler 400 X also gets its own three colour choices including Matt Khaki Green and Fusion White, Carnival Red and Phantom Black and Phantom Black and Silver Ice options.

To complement its go-anywhere nature, Triumph has equipped the Scrambler 400 X with a headlight protector, radiator and sump, as well as handguards, a handlebar brace with pad and a longer front mudguard.The semi-digital instrument cluster gets a large analogue speedometer coupled with an LCD screen to its right.

This digital display is capable of showing things like the tachometer, gear position and distance to empty.

Riders will be able to navigate through the screen menus using a handlebar-mounted toggle and bikes also come with a USB Type-C charging port.

For added safety, Triumph has equipped the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X with a steering lock and an anti-theft immobiliser as standard.

The transponder chip integrated into the ignition key ensures only the owner can start the engine.Owners of the Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X will also have the option to customise their motorcycles with more than 25 official accessories.
