NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha will start a debate on the opposition group INDIA's no-confidence motion against the Modi government on August 8.

The debate will continue for 3 days.PM Modi is set to reply to the no-confidence motion on August 10.The 26-party opposition alliance had moved a notice of no-confidence on July 26 in the Lok Sabha demanding the Prime Minister speak on the Manipur situation inside the House.Going by numbers, the no-confidence motion is set to fail, yet leaders of the opposition bloc Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) argue that they can still win the battle of perception by pressuring the government on the Manipur issue and compelling Prime Minister Modi to address the matter in Parliament. This marks the second time the Modi government has faced a no-confidence motion since 2014.

The initial no-trust motion against the Modi government in Lok Sabha took place on July 20, 2018.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a decisive victory with 325 MPs voting against the motion, while only 126 supported it.Currently, Lok Sabha comprises 543 seats, with five of them vacant.

The BJP-led NDA holds over 330 members, the opposition alliance has more than 140, and nearly 60 members belong to parties not aligned with either of these two groups.(With inputs from agencies)
