KALYAN: A 26-year-old man working for a shipping company was arrested on his return from Ukraine for abetting the suicide of his wife who was in Kalyan.The 25-year-woman allegedly committed suicide on finding out that her husband, Nitish Nair, had gone to Ukraine despite her opposition to his illicit relationship with a woman there.

He used to visit the country for work where he had met the woman.The woman's father, Surendra Sawant, lodged a complaint stating that in September, his daughter learnt that her husband was having an illicit relationship and had seen his photographs with the woman.

The complaint states that the wife had objected to the relationship and had warned her husband to not visit Ukraine again.

On November 8, Nitish informed Kajal that he was going to office in Mumbai, but left for Ukraine.

On reaching there, he sent her a message saying he had landed in Ukraine and would not return, says the complaint.

Depressed, the wife allegedly hanged herself at home, states the complaint.

Before ending her life, she sent text messages to a few of her friends, informing them of what she planned to do, said officials of Kolsewadi police station.

The police said that the wife had informed her mother about the trauma she was facing after reading her husband's message.

On learning about Kajal's death, Nitish returned to India and was arrested from his residence.
