KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 19The World Social Forum (WSF) 2024 concluded today in Kathmandu with a solidarity march involving diverse participants. Migrant worker plight highlighted at World Social Forum 2024 Karnali seeks more focus in 16th periodic plan The 16th edition of the WSF, which commenced last Thursday, also began with a solidarity march.

During the five-day event, over 50,000 participants from more than 1400 organizations spanning 98 countries marked their attendance virtually and in person at various concurrent events, as reported by the Nepal Organizing Committee of the WSF 2024.According to the press statement issued by the Committee, various thematic panels, self-organized activities, and cultural programs aimed to provide networking opportunities, collaborative actions, and foster discussions and strategies for a more equitable and sustainable future. Participants deliberated on a wide range of pressing issues, including economic inequality, social justice, climate justice, citizen engagement, the right to information, labor, migration, caste-based discrimination, gender equality, peace, and sustainable development, among others.The event concluded with 60 declarations from organizations worldwide pledging to collaborate towards the realization of another, fairer, and more just world, noted the Committee.Expressing gratitude towards Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the UN, who expressed his support in his solidarity message to the WSF 2024, the Committee also extended thanks to all organizations, including the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, and individuals contributing to the event's success.The theme for this edition of WSF 2024 was 'Another World is Possible'.

It's worth noting that WSF began in 2001 as an alternative to the World Economic Forum held annually in Davos, Switzerland. .
