SHIMLA: Heavy overnight rain left a trail of destruction across Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, claiming the lives of 11 people and blocking over 400 roads.The continuous downpour prompted authorities to issue a red alert for parts of Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla.

A moderate-to-high flash flood risk warning has been extended to Shimla, Sirmaur, Kangra, Chamba, Mandi, Hamirpur, Solan, Bilaspur, and Kullu districts.Among the hardest-hit districts were Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Kullu, with Bilaspur experiencing the heaviest rainfall of 180mm within 24 hours.

Eight deaths were reported from Mandi while three from Shimla.

Of the total 11 casualties, seven died in landslides while the rest were victims of other rain-related accidents.

Flash floods devastated Subathu cantonment town in Solan.This year's monsoon has brought severe flooding and landslides to Himachal.

This month alone, over 80 people have lost their lives due to rain-related events, adding up to a total of 242 fatalities.In Shimla, the force of the rain led to the uprooting of large deodar trees, while houses were damaged and vehicles crushed under landslides and fallen trees.

The city roads were blocked throughout the morning.

Shimla's essential utilities faced disruption, with electricity and water supply faltering.

A couple from Jharkhand died after they were buried under the rubble of a landslide.

A landslide unleashed its havoc upon a railway engine yard, causing the collapse of its roof.

The Shimla-Kalka railway line, already under duress, suffered further blows from subsequent landslips.

In the Shanan locality, four houses were evacuated.

Two major tourist highways of the state - Chandigarh to Shimla and Manali - continued to be blocked.

Kullu was once again isolated from the rest of the state.

Numerous roads leading to the town, including the Chandigarh-Manali highway, were obstructed by debris from flash floods and landslides.

Landslides in Mandi led to closures in multiple places along the Manali highway.

Even newly constructed tunnels near Pandoh experienced flooding as a stream overflowed.
