NEW DELHI: In a historic step, the Supreme Court on Tuesday began live transcription of proceedings prior to a five-judge Constitution bench hearing petitions filed by the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction.CJI D Y Chandrachud stated, We had to do it (transcribing) in a live environment.

So, it is an experiment.

We will see how it works, to start with in Constitution bench matters.

It will create a permanent record of arguments.

It will assist the legal representatives and judges.

But it will likewise benefit law trainees who can evaluate how matters are argued in the Supreme Court.

It will construct a huge resource base.

Justice M R Shah, part of the Constitution bench, stated in a lighter vein, This also suggests do not disrupt each other during the arguments.

All will be tape-recorded.

Senior supporter Kapil Sibal, who hailed the relocation as historic, a milestone and a wonderful initiative, joined the small talk to state, Posterity will evaluate us what foolish arguments we made.

Justice P S Narasimha said, This move remains in sync with the idea of the Supreme Court being a court of record.

Every word said in the court will be tape-recorded.

Sibal said, While practicing before the New York Court in the 1970s, we had examination before trial (EBT) proceedings.

They would record whatever that was stated in the course of that evaluation.

So, the attorneys knew what was going to take place.

Solicitor basic Tushar Mehta said that in e-courts, which are sessions courts, whatever the attorneys state, even the whisperings, are recorded .

Sibal stated, That is dangerous.

That is totally dangerous.

Moving away from the banter, the CJI stated The only issue is when two or more persons speak at the exact same time.

We have actually engaged personnel who will clean up the transcription by the night and supply a link to the counsel to go through the records and suggest corrections.

After it is tidied up and fixed, the records would be provided to the judges.
