DEHRADUN: A 24-year-old woman died after being engulfed in flames as her scooter caught fire near Dangeela area under Thatiur police station limits on Monday morning.
Prima facie, it appeared that passersby stopped to shoot videos “but none cared to help the girl”.Police in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand will thoroughly probe the accident, videos of which surfaced on social media.According to police, Ranjana was a resident of Chinyalisaur area of Uttarkashi town where she worked at a pharmacy.
She was on her way to Chinyalisaur from Dehradun when her scooter went up in flames.SHO, Thatiur, inspector Shanti Prasad Chamoli, told TOI that “instead of trying to help the girl, some stopped to shoot videos and take photos.” He added: “We have come across certain videos on social media in which it is clear that people are not trying to help her but shooting videos on phones.
We summoned a few people to the police station and questioned them.
They argued that they couldn’t help her as she was already 80% burnt.”Chamoli said by the time police reached the spot with an ambulance, she had died. After examining footage from a CCTV camera 2km from the spot, police said the woman was seen riding her scooter without any problems.
“As of now, it seems to be a fire accident triggered by some electrical fault in her vehicle,” said Chamoli. Some people who were summoned to the police station argued that they couldn’t help her as she was already 80% burnt, said SHO Chamoli
