The Permanent Delegation of Sri Lanka to UNESCO participated in the UNESCO International Mother Languages Day 2023 celebration arranged by the Permanent Delegation of Bangladesh in line with UNESCOs style Safeguarding Indigenous Languages for Promoting Multilingualism through Transforming Education .
The event was held on February 20 and 21, 2023 at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.The events made up a cultural programme consisting of efficiencies by indigenous communities, a language exhibition, cultural expressions and a culinary arts exhibition through the presentation of traditional foods and beverages where UNESCO member specifies showcased their cultures and languages.Sri Lankas involvement was marked by a fascinating Ves dance efficiency by the Thisaravi Dance Academy in Paris which showcased one of the nations traditional dance types illustrating a ritualistic exorcism ceremony.Visitors were also presented to the age-old custom of discovering the Sri Lankan alphabet by writing in the sandboard, which is called Welipilla, and a discussion of the evolution of Sri Lankas mom languages Sinhala and Tamil in the modern-day era.The Sri Lanka Permanent Delegation also provided kokis, and Ceylon tea with kithul jaggery, understood for its distinct flavour and aroma.
The exhibition permitted visitors to experience Sri Lankas abundant cultural heritage and diverse linguistic traditions.The International Mother Languages Day occasion intends to promote linguistic and multiculturalism, in addition to multilingualism, and Sri Lankas participation was a testament to the countrys dedication to maintaining its special linguistic and cultural heritage.
