TEHRAN – Handicrafts exports from South Khorasan province reached over $500,000 during the past Iranian calendar year 1401, which came to an end on March 20, the deputy provincial tourism chief has said. The eastern province earned a total of $515,000 from exporting handicrafts, of which some $400,000 was via suitcase trade (allowed for customs-free and tax-free transfer), Hassan-Ali Fuladi explained on Friday. South Khorasan is home to many historical and natural attractions, such as Birjand Castle, Dragon Cave, Furg Citadel, and Polond Desert.The province is also known for its famous rugs, as well as its saffron and barberry, which are produced in almost all parts of the province.The value of Iran’s handicraft exports stood at $400 million during the first ten months of the Iranian calendar year 1401 (Mar.

Shiraz has been dubbed “the world city of [various] handicrafts.”Malayer became a center for woodcarving and carved wood furniture on a global scale.

The designation “world city of filigree” was given to Zanjan.
