RAJKOT: It was a double whammy on the Diwali day for Ahmedabad-based trader Ashok Sabhadiya.First, he suffered injuries in an accident on the Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway.

Then a man pretending to be a Good Samaritan stole his cash and valuables worth Rs 1.80 lakh after taking him to the hospital.On November 12, Sabhadiya, a retailer of plastic items, was going to Rajkot in his car.When he reached Chotila, the car rammed into a truck.

Some people called the 108 emergency ambulance, and among them was an aged man who offered to accompany him to the hospital in Chotila and complete the admission formalities.

From the government hospital, the unidentified man took Sabhadiya to a private hospital in Rajkot.“In the hospital, Sabhadiya was taken for tests and a detailed examination for injuries.

He naturally trusted the man who brought him to the hospital and gave him the bag requesting him to take care of it as there were valuables inside.

However, the man left the hospital with the bag,” said Kaushal Raval, investigation officer, A-division police station, Rajkot.After recovering from the injuries, Sabhadiya lodged a complaint on Friday.According to the victim, the bag contained gold biscuits worth Rs 96,000, a laptop, cash, debit cards of two bank accounts, an Aadhar card, and other valuables totaling Rs 1.80lakh.The police are scanning the CCTVs of the hospital and the highway where the accident occurred to identify the thief.
