PUNE: A retired Army man (65) lost Rs3.75 lakh in a case of sextortion over his nude videos recorded over a phone call by fraudsters he had met on social media.The suspects demanded money from the victim, a resident of Wagholi, to delete the videos.

Failing payment, they threatened to share the videos with his relatives.The retired Army personnel tendered a complaint application to Pune police’s cyber police station.Post verification of the application, a formal FIR was registered with the Lonikand police on Friday.Police said the sextortion took place in the second week of August.Inspector Seema Dhakane of Lonikand police told TOI, “The suspects, who probably run a sextortion racket, demanded money from the victim to delete the videos and not upload it on various social media platforms tagging his relatives.

They promised to delete it if the victim paid up.”Dhakane said the victim claimed he had befriended a ‘woman’ on a social media platform.

The said ‘woman’, who could well be a man using a voice changer, shared a cellphone number and promised to be good friends with him.

Such a modus operandi to trap unsuspecting citizens is catching on.

Meanwhile, the person would call the complainant regularly.

One day, the victim received a call from the friend’s number and there were visuals of a woman without any clothes on.

The man was also urged to undress on camera.

The victim took off his clothes and the caller recorded two to three videos.

The suspects then shared the videos with the victim and threatened to defame him, the inspector added.The FIR said the fraudsters used three mobile phones to make extortion calls.
