GURGAON: In a direct referral to financial fugitives finding safe houses overseas, India on Wednesday called upon G20 nations to embrace multilateral action for faster extradition of such transgressors and healing of properties from abroad.Jointly chairing the first anti-corruption working group conference of G20 countries with Italy in Gurgaon, minister of state in the PMO Jitendra Singh stated lots of countries are dealing with the issue of financial offenses and it becomes hard to prosecute such transgressors when the person gets away overseas.
India has been battling cases in UK courts for extradition of diamond merchant Nirav Modi and previous business tycoon Vijay Mally for a number of years now.Singh required better coordination, streamlining of judicial processes and prompt disposal of cases for multilateral action rather than bilateral coordination, which shows to be more complex and presents obstacles in making progress on cases associated with financial culprits .
Singh said as the primary online forum for international economic cooperation, G20 has to take obligation to lead international efforts towards battling the hazard of corruption.
India is chairing the G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group which was made up in 2010.
He later informed mediapersons how its legal effort versus financial culprits helped the ED recuperate and return properties worth $180 billion to public sector banks of the $272 billion siphoned off by a few of these transgressors.
Indias view is that strengthening of systems for fast confiscation of the proceeds of crime, both at home and abroad, will require the transgressors to return to their home country, Singh told the G20 delegates.
