LUCKNOW: Virat Kohli’s 50th century at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium created a ripple effect some 1,500 km away in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, where a stampede-like situation took place after an eatery owner announced to serve biryani at a discount equal to the runs made by the cricketer.Since Kohli went on to score a century — his record breaking 50th— the discount came out to be 100%, which meant the plate of chicken and mutton biryani came for free, prompting the large number of people rushing in to avail the offer.With visuals of the offer going viral on social media, the queue only swelled and people were seen jostling to get into the queue to grab hold of a plate of biryani.

Before the restaurant owner exhausted his stuff, cops had to be called to control the crowd.The incident took place in Tikoni Bagh area of Dehat police limits on Wednesday evening.

Aftab, a local resident said, “I couldn’t get a chance to eat biryani as the entire cauldron was cleaned up by people who were ahead of me in the queue.”The situation turned tense after those waiting in the queue started demanding the restaurant owner to arrange for more biryani.

Ultimately, the owner had to chain down his restaurant to avoid any kind of vandalism.
