The prevailing rainy weather conditions in the south-western part of the island are expected to enhance to some extent in the next few days from today (08), according to the Meteorology Department.Issuing a forecast for the next 36 hours, it said Showers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western and Southern provinces and in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.Several spells of light showers will occur in Northern and North-central provinces and in Matale district, the department said.Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts in the evening or night.Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over Northern, North-central, North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
