KATHMANDU, JULY 31As many as 55 people have gone missing after 21 vehicles plunged into the Trishuli River from the Narayangadh-Muglin section and the Muglin-Mauwakhola section of the Prithvi Highway in the past eight years.
Rescuers recover first body from 2 buses that were hit by landslide and fell into Trishuli River Two buses swept into Trishuli, still missing Among those missing is former Home Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire.The District Traffic Police Office reported that five vehicles went missing in the river in Fiscal Year 2073-74 BS, four vehicles in FY 2074-75 BS, four vehicles in FY 2075-76 BS, and one vehicle each in FY 2076-77 BS, FY 2077-78 BS, and FY 2079-80 BS.
The highest number of accidents occurred in FY 2080-81 BS, with five vehicles plunging into the river.
In terms of missing persons, 14 people went missing in FY 2073-74 BS, four people in FY 2078-79 BS, and 37 people in FY 2080-81 BS.
During this period, a total of 66 vehicles met with accidents on these road sections.According to the District Traffic Police Office, the vehicles involved in accidents from FY 2073-74 BS (2016-17) to FY 2080-81 BS (2023-24) included 40 trucks, nine buses, 12 cars, three motorbikes, and two other vehicles.
