KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 8The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has launched a major initiative aimed at reducing road accidents during the upcoming Dashain and Tihar festivals. Minister Dahal also directed the Nepal Police to be prepared for strict enforcement of traffic regulations, prompt rescue operations for road accident victims, and timely provision of medical attention.Pledging to pursue legal and policy reforms for long-term road safety management, the Minister announced plans to revitalize the Road Safety Council.

He emphasized that road safety can be achieved through a combination of well-maintained roads, properly functioning vehicles, skilled drivers, and informed passengers.Similarly, Keshav Kumar Sharma, Secretary at the Ministry, underscored the importance of road safety during the festive season.

He advocated for measures such as requiring two drivers for vehicles on long routes and strict adherence to traffic regulations.Road safety experts, including Dr.

Parthamani Parajuli and Saroj Kumar Pradhan, called for the Council to be made more effective.

Representatives from the Nepal Police, Ministry of Health and Population, Department of Roads, Road Board Nepal, and Department of Road Management, among others, shared their insights and plans to ensure road safety during the festivals. .
