Afghanistan

Maleeha Lodhi, Pakistan&& s previous ambassador to the United States, has mentioned that Pakistan&& s significance to the United States, when driven by its role in Afghanistan, has diminished. In an interview with a personal tv channel Wednesday, Lodhi expressed that Pakistan is no longer a top priority for the United States, as the geopolitical landscape has shifted. She explained that Pakistan&& s importance to the United States was carefully linked to Afghanistan, but now, with that problem no longer central, Pakistan is not a priority in US foreign policy.
Lodhi emphasised that US policy is now driven by its own interests.Reflecting on the political situation, she kept in mind that there are varying opinions within Pakistan relating to the timing of solving PTI&& s issues.
Some think the PTI&& s issues must be resolved before Donald Trump assumes the presidency, while others think that both the PTI and the government have nothing to get from continuing the standoff, for this reason the current progress.Lodhi further discussed the significance of Donald Trump&& s upcoming presidency, mentioning that until Trump formally takes office, his comments and tweets bring no official weight.
She clarified that any remarks from Trump&& s associates are personal viewpoints, not main statements. On the concern of military courts, Lodhi acknowledged the clear position of Western nations, especially the European Union, which has warned that Pakistan&& s GSP Plus status might be at risk due to the continuous usage of military courts. She stated that Pakistan must beware about external pressures and emphasised the importance of attending to problems internally, instead of counting on foreign influence.Lodhi concluded by revealing issue that such statements and global pressures adversely affect Pakistan&& s image, including that the country needs to resolve its own problems without depending on external forces. On December 24, United States revealed its concerns over the convictions of civilians in Pakistani military courts, requiring fair trials and respect for human rights.US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller in his post on X said, && The United States is worried by the sentencing of Pakistani civilians in a military tribunal and calls upon Pakistani authorities to respect the right to a fair trial and due process.&& The post Ex-Pakistan envoy says US no longer values her country due to Afghanistan initially appeared on Ariana News.
