A Public Health Inspector (PHI) attached to the Galewela Medical Officer of Health (MOH) workplace has been arrested by officials of the Bribery Commission for presumably obtaining a kickback of Rs.
200,000 to restore a hotels trade license.The arrest followed a grievance submitted by a homeowner of Ibbagamuwa, who operates a hotel.The plaintiff had actually applied to the Galewela Pradeshiya Sabha for the renewal of the hotels 2025 trade license.As part of the licensing procedure, the PHI was needed to conduct an evaluation of the facility before offering a suggestion to the Pradeshiya Sabha.However, the officer presumably required a kickback of Rs.
