Russias Federal Security Service (FSB) stated Thursday it prevented a Ukrainian assassination plot against an unknown authorities in the southern Saratov area, coming amidst unconfirmed reports that the regional governor may have been the target.FSB representatives shot and killed an alleged Ukrainian operative who showed armed resistance while obtaining an explosive gadget from storage, the agency stated in a statement.
The individual was going to use the explosive device to explode the government authorities state automobile, it added.Video released by state news agencies showed law enforcement agents standing beside a blurred body in what seemed a building site, showing bullet casings and a pistol.The second half of the video showed representatives searching an empty house, where they discovered explosive components, Ukrainian-language documents and Ukrainian currency.The FSB said the supposed plotter was a Russian nationwide hired by Ukraine in 2024, who underwent special training in Kyiv before being sent out to Russia to perform terrorist attacks.The firm did not identify the desired target.Saratov-based news outlets Sarinform and Vzglyad Info, citing confidential sources, reported that Saratov region Governor Roman Busargin was the target of the assassination plot.Busargins press service neither confirmed nor denied those reports when reached by local media for remark, and the governor has actually not commented on the claims.
