Joo Fonseca defeated Kazakhstans Alexander Bublik 7-6(5), 7-6(0) Sunday to win the Arizona Tennis Classic in Phoenix.
The ATP Challenger Tour confirmed the 18-year-old Brazilians remarkable triumph at the prestigious Challenger 175 event.Fonseca demonstrated exceptional poise throughout the one-hour, 43-minute final before a sellout crowd at Phoenix Country Club.
He twice served for the opening set at 5-4 and 6-5 but needed a tiebreak to secure it 7-5.The second set followed a similar pattern with both players engaging in aggressive, first-strike tennis.
Bublik saved three championship points with powerful aces, two while trailing 5-4 and another at 6-5.Fonseca regrouped quickly and dominated the second-set tiebreak 7-0.
This victory marks his third title of 2025, averaging one trophy per month since January. The young Brazilians path to the championship proved challenging.
He defeated Pavel Kotov, fourth-seeded Jan-Lennard Struff, Hugo Gaston, and former world No.

He joins del Potro and Guillermo Coria as the only South American-born players to win three Challenger titles while still 18.Fonsecas Breakout Start to 2025Fonseca started 2025 by winning the Challenger 125 in Canberra.
He then captured his first ATP Tour-level title at the Buenos Aires ATP 250 in February.
These achievements make him the first player to win an ATP 250, Challenger 175, and Challenger 125 in the same season. The victory propels Fonseca to a career-high ATP ranking of 62, reflecting his meteoric rise.
Just last year, he competed primarily in junior tournaments and finished as the ITF Junior World Champion.Fonseca now heads to the Miami Open with significant momentum.
Tennis insiders increasingly view him as one of the sports brightest prospects, drawing comparisons to other young stars like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner who similarly dominated the Challenger circuit before breaking through at the highest level.
