The last routine of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, leaving for work, is being observed today (17) at the auspicious time of 9.03 a.m.According to the custom, people are encouraged to wear golden-colored clothing, take in milk rice prepared with cows milk, and start their journeys facing the north during the auspicious time. This marks the ceremonial end of the New Year events and the symbolic return to day-to-day routines.Speaking on the significance of the routine, cultural expert Mahinda Kumara Dalupotha kept in mind the requirement for greater attention in creating auspicious times in the years to come, pointing out challenges in their preparation.In the meantime, authorities have taken actions to help with the return of people who took a trip to their home towns for the New Year.The National Transport Commission announced that an unique bus service will run from today to carry guests back to Colombo and surrounding locations. Director of Operations and Service Supervision Shereen Athukorala mentioned that additional buses will be deployed in areas with high guest demand.Similarly, the Railway Department has presented an unique train service beginning tomorrow (18) through April 21. General Manager of Railways Dhammika Jayasundara verified that these services will run in addition to the regular train schedules to accommodate increased traveler circulation.
