
China's cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) in science and technology has expanded in both quality and scope, forming a multi-tiered, multi-field collaborative network, said Yin Hejun, China's Minister of Science and Technology, on Wednesday in Beijing.Yin made the remarks at the inaugural China-LAC Science Day, which brought together representatives from China, Latin America, and the Caribbean to exchange the latest research findings and successful practices in key fields such as life sciences, agricultural technology, and digital innovation.In recent years, China-LAC sci-tech collaboration has flourished, broadening its reach and engaging a more diverse range of stakeholders.While bilateral cooperation in traditional sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, and energy and minerals has undergone qualitative upgrades, the two sides have also accelerated collaboration in cutting-edge fields including 5G, digital technology, new energy, advanced materials, and biomedicine.To further strengthen ties, the China-LAC Technology Transfer Center and the China-LAC Sustainable Food Innovation Center were established subsequently in 2023 and 2024, providing platforms to jointly address emerging challenges and opportunities in science and technology.Looking ahead, Yin emphasized China's commitment to upholding the principles of openness, fairness, justice, and non-discrimination in international sci-tech cooperation, while fostering a more inclusive environment for innovation.
