The first World Athletics Diamond League meeting of 2025 will begin on Saturday in Xiamen, southeast China's Fujian Province.
Zhu Yaming and another 15 home athletes will participate in 10 events at the tournament.Although the men's triple jump is not a Diamond League points event in Xiamen, Zhu still treats it with great importance.
Last month at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, he claimed a hard-earned silver medal to mark his resurgence from a two-year competitive slump.
This will be the 30-year-old's first appearance since then and he will go up against fellow Chinese Su Wen and Burkina Faso's Budapest World Championships winner Hugues Fabrice Zango.Zhu claimed silver at the Tokyo Olympics four years ago and bronze at the 2022 Oregon World Championships.
Though he lost his form over the next two seasons, his reunion with Brazilian coach Nelio Moura has sparked a revival in fortunes.
Now Zhu is aiming for more glory at this year's Tokyo World Championships and the National Games of China."I really enjoy coming to Xiamen to compete in the Diamond League," Zhu said.
"I made some adjustments during the training session, but I feel I'm not in my best form yet, so I still need some time to recover.
However, when it comes to the real competition, I will give it my all.
I believe that to finish in the top three, a mark of at least 17.30 meters will be necessary.
My years of experience in major competitions have been a great help, and I'm eager to maintain the strong momentum from the indoor season and keep achieving better results."
