Russias military introduced an air attack on the center of Kyiv in the very first hours of 2025, killing a minimum of 2 people, Ukrainian authorities said early Wednesday.An overall of 111 Russian drones were fired at Ukraine overnight, with 109 either shot down or disabled by air defense systems, Ukraines flying force said.Ukraines state emergency situation services stated two individuals were killed and six others were injured in the attack on Kyiv.City authorities said the damage was brought on by falling debris, recommending air defense systems had intercepted the drones.Apartment blocks were hit and Ukraines Central Bank stated among its structures was damaged in the attack.The attack came just hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky promised in a New Years message that he would do whatever possible to bring the war to an end over the next 12 months.Zelensky condemned Wednesday mornings attack, composing on Telegram: Even on New Years night, Russia just appreciates hurting Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials said that the Russian drones targeted Kyivs Pechersky district, home to the governmental palace and government quarter.Russian President Vladimir Putin has consistently threatened to strike at the heart of Kyiv in recent weeks, an attack he said would be a reaction to Ukraine firing U.S.-supplied long-range rockets inside Russian territory.
