A Russian court sentenced 5 more individuals to prison on Wednesday over their involvement in mass demonstrations in the republic of Bashkortostan last year.Nearly 80 individuals have been convicted or arecurrentlyfacingtrialfor protestsin the town of Baymak in January 2024 against the jailing ofFail Alsynov, a popular regional activist.
Those chargedincludeindividuals with serious health conditions, single parents and entire families.The Leninsky District Court in the Orenburg area city of Orsk, which borders Bashkortostan, discovered 5 ethnic Bashkirs guilty of mass unrest and violence against law enforcement officers.Each offender was sentenced to 5 years in a medium-security chastening nest.
