Russias Supreme Court will consider a demand from the Prosecutor Generals Office to get rid of the Taliban from its list of terrorist organizations on April 17, the Interfax news agency reported Monday.If approved, the decision would mark completion of more than 20 years of the Talibans classification as a terrorist group in Russia.A legal mechanism enabling the removal of groups from the terrorist list was presented in December, when President Vladimir Putin signed it into law.The legislation permits Russias leading district attorney to ask for a short-term removal if it can demonstrate that the group has stopped supporting or promoting terrorism in Russia.According to Interfax, the Supreme Courts press service validated it had gotten the demand from the Prosecutor Generals Office.
The closed-door hearing is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

Russia first prohibited the Taliban as a terrorist company in 2003.
