Under Japans Economic and Social Development Programme, a grant of 300 million Japanese Yen (around LKR 565 million) has been offered to procure 28 state-of-the-art garbage compactors.This assistance from the Government of Japan considerably increases Sri Lankas dedication to a cleaner and much healthier environment.This help will significantly improve waste collection and disposal efforts under the Governments ambitious Clean Sri Lanka program, which intends to change the country into a cleaner physical environment and promote a nationwide commitment to ethical and sustainable practices, according to the Ministry of Finance.The Clean Sri Lanka initiative looks for to address pushing difficulties in keeping a cleaner physical environment in waste management, including illegal discarding and ecological pollution, which have been intensified by rapid urbanization.The addition of contemporary trash compactors will considerably strengthen regional authorities ability to manage waste efficiently in the Western, Northern, and Eastern Provinces, making sure a cleaner and healthier environment for all Sri Lankans, the declaration added.To formalize this essential grant, an official finalizing ceremony happened on February 3, 2025, at the Presidential Secretariat.
