The nominations for the 2025 Local Government Elections will be accepted from March 17, 2025, the Elections Commission announced.The commission stated that the appropriate elections will be accepted till 12 noon on March 20, 2025.
Accordingly, the notifications relating to the acceptance of nominations for the election of Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Chairpersons, Deputy Chairpersons, and members for 336 city government organizations throughout the nation have now been released in the respective local authorities.The Election Commission said that these include 28 Municipal Councils, 36 Urban Councils and 272 Pradeshiya Sabhas.
The Kalmunai Municipal Council, Dehiattakandiya Pradeshiya Sabha (Ampara District), Mannar Pradeshiya Sabha (Mannar District), Punakari Pradeshiya Sabha (Kilinochchi District), and Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha (Galle District) are omitted from this election.Meanwhile, the commission said that security deposits from prospect will be accepted from March 3 to March 19, 2025, until 12.00 midday, excluding March 13, the Poya Day and weekends on March 8, 9, 15, and 16.
