The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) said on Monday it brought a group of experts together in Kabul to discuss solutions for sustainable alternative livelihoods for former poppy farmers who relied on illicit crop cultivation.&We need more conversations about alternative livelihoods,& UNODC Afghanistan said on X.

&UNODC recently brought a group of experts together in Kabul to discuss solutions for sustainable alternative livelihoods for former poppy farmers who relied on illicit crop cultivation.&The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) welcomed the meeting and said that it is necessary to find an alternative to poppy cultivation in order to have a drug-free Afghanistan.Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of the Islamic Emirate, said that now that the cultivation of poppy is prohibited in Afghanistan, the time has come to prevent it, and the Islamic Emirate wants to permanently eradicate narcotics from Afghanistan.Experts say such meetings are not enough and the government should take serious measures against drug trafficking.

According to them, if an alternative to poppy cultivation is not found, it is possible that people will return to poppy cultivation.UNODC recently reported that poppy cultivation in Afghanistan has decreased by 95% this year.The post UNODC holds meeting in Kabul over drug alternative livelihoods first appeared on Ariana News.
