China firmly deplores and opposes the United States decision to impose mutual tariffs on its trading partners and will take required countermeasures to protect its legitimate rights and interests, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Thursday.The comments followed the United States announced on Wednesday that it would enforce mutual tariffs on its trading partners, including 34 percent on China.China has repeatedly stressed that there is no winner in trade and tariff wars and that protectionism has no way out, representative Guo Jiakun stated at a regular press conference.Under the guise of reciprocity, the United States has imposed tariffs on products exported to the United States by lots of countries, including China, which is a major offense of WTO guidelines and seriously weakens the rules-based multilateral trading system, Guo pointed out.He prompted the United States to rectify its incorrect practices and to solve its trade distinctions through consultations with countries worldwide, including China, in an equivalent, respectful and equally beneficial way.
