
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defense Minister Dong Jun on Monday co-chaired the First Ministerial Meeting of China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue with Indonesia's Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.The two sides vowed to deepen strategic mutual trust, maintain close high-level exchanges, enhance cooperation in fields such as defense and security and jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.Noting the great significance of the dialogue mechanism, Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said it fully demonstrates the high strategic mutual trust between the two countries and enriches the connotation of the China-Indonesia community with a shared future.China is ready to build the mechanism into a primary platform for enhancing the political, security and defense cooperation between the two countries, and push bilateral mutual trust and strategic cooperation to a higher level, he said.Wang called on the two sides to uphold strategic independence, support each other's core interests, strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance dialogue in various fields, enhance law enforcement and security cooperation, and build solid strategic mutual trust.The two sides should advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, set more benchmarks for cooperation in emerging fields, give play to the complementary advantages of resources and production capacity, and build a safe and stable cross-border industrial and supply chains.China is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation on platforms such as the United Nations, BRICS and the G20 with Indonesia to serve as a just force for maintaining world peace and stability, a progressive force for safeguarding international fairness and justice, and a constructive force for promoting global development and cooperation, he said.Dong said amid the current international situation, the deepening of defense and security cooperation between China and Indonesia will provide strong support for the building of a China-Indonesia community with a shared future with regional and global influence, and contribute to regional and world peace and stability.China is willing to work with Indonesia to strive to build a new framework of defense and security cooperation with deeper strategic mutual trust and more coordinated mechanism building, Dong said.He called for carrying out multi-field and in-depth practical cooperation, and elevate bilateral relations to a new and higher level.Sugiono said the dialogue mechanism demonstrates the comprehensive, high-level and strategic nature of Indonesia's relations with China.Indonesia will work with China to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in fields including economy and trade, agriculture and fisheries, energy, medical care and digital economy, enhance communication and cooperation, he said.Noting that Indonesia and China's military relations are developing in a sound momentum, Sjafrie called for strengthening strategic dialogue, and enhancing cooperation in defense, maritime security and other fields to jointly respond to global challenges.The two sides also had in-depth communication on international and regional issues of common concern, such as the situation in the Middle East, and reached broad consensus.After the meeting, Wang and Sugiono jointly signed a memorandum of understanding on establishing a comprehensive strategic dialogue mechanism.
The two sides also signed cooperation documents in areas such as maritime security cooperation during the meeting.
