The SP BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 Indexes resumed their downward journey, after a day's breather in Friday's session, led by declines in
banking, energy and oil gas shares
The Sensex slumped as much as 520 points from day's highest level of 39,041.25 to test low of 38,520.96 and the NSE Nifty 50 Index touched
high of 11,710.30 and low of 11,549.10
Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance and ITC were among the biggest drags on the Sensex.The SP BSE Sensex ended 161.70 points or
0.42 per cent to close at 38,700.53 and the NSE Nifty 50 Index fell 61 points or 0.53 per cent to shut shop at 11,604.50.Markets are
witnessing a bout of correction after run up to record highs as investors await March quarter and financial year -end earnings from the
Nifty 50 companies which will begin on Friday, analysts said.All sector gauges, barring the Nifty IT index, compiled by the National Stock
Exchange ended lower led by the Nifty Realty Index's 2.2 per cent fall.Nifty PSU Bank, Energy, Media, PSU Bank, Metal and Bank Indexes also
fell between 0.8 and 1.1 per cent each.From the Nifty basket of shares, 34 ended lower while 16 closed higher.Indiabulls Housing Finance was
top Nifty loser, the stock fell 4.76 per cent to Rs 860.10 after the Reserve Bank of India said it has not yet approved a merger proposal of
private-sector lender Lakshmi Vilas Bank and Indiabulls Housing Finance.Indian Oil, Bajaj Finance, Vedanta, Yes Bank, Bharat Petroleum,
Adani Ports, GAIL, Reliace Industries and Eicher Motors were also among the losers.On the flipside, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Mahindra
Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, Power Grid and ONGC were among the gainers.The overall market breadth was negative as 1,507 shares
