BJP Rajya Sabha member Ashok Gasti dies due to coronavirus

multiple organ failure on Thursday
He was suffering from Covid-19.A first-time member of parliament, Gasti was elected to Rajya Sabha in June of this year.The 55-year-old
leader was diagnosed with severe Covid-19 pneumonia on September 2 and had been admitted to Manipal Hospital in Bangalore.According to a
statement issued by the hospital's director, Dr Manish Rai, the Rajya Sabha MP was critically ill with multi-organ failure
"He was on the life support system in the intensive care unit under constant observation by our expert panel of doctors," the doctor
said.Ashok Gasti was a first time Rajya Sabha member
He was elected to the Upper House from Karnataka in June, this year.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over Ashok Gasti's

He was a former general secretary of the BJP's OBC cell and has also served as chairperson of the Karnataka Backward Class Development
Corporation.In June, the party nominated him for the Rajya Sabha elections along with Eranna Kadadi, ignoring the state party unit's
recommendations.
