Hyderabad: Man gets life sentence and Rs10,000 fine for killing wife for dowry

A local court in Hyderabad today awarded a man with life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 after it held him guilty of murdering his wife
for dowry.The deceased, Reetu Sareen, 29, an airhostess with Jet Airways, was killed in April 2015
Her husband, Sachin Uppal, a businessman, was reportedly enraged over her family for not meeting his second dowry demand.The two were
married in 2013 and had a son a year later
However, Sachin suspected Reetu had an extramarital affair and demanded they should conduct his son's DNA test.Besides this, at the time of
their marriage, Reetu's family had given a total of rs 16 lakh as dowry as demanded by Sachin and his family-- Rs 5 lakh in cash, gold
ornaments worth Rs 6 lakh and the rest for other expenses.Later, when Sachin suffered loss in his business, he demanded additional Rs 10
lakh as dowry and started harassing Reetu over it.On the day of the murder, Sachin along with his friend Kotagiri Rakesh Kumar went to a bar
and had drinks
At 11 pm, they returned to his house and a quarrel broke out between the couple over changing TV channels
Sachin wanted to watch a cricket match.Enraged, Sachin attached Reetu and she died.On Friday, a local court sentenced Sachin Uppal to life
imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs10,000
His friend and mother, who were named as accused, were acquitted.Back in 2015, this murder had triggered shockwaves in the city
