Cyclone Yass likely to hit West Bengal, Odisha coast by May 27

26-27, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated on Wednesday.A low pressure location is likely to form over north Andaman Sea and
adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal around Might 22, it stated
It is very likely to heighten gradually into a cyclonic storm during the subsequent 72 hours
It is highly likely to move northwestwards and reach West Bengal-Odisha coasts around 26th May night, the Cyclone Caution Department of the
IMD said.It included that the southwest monsoon is most likely to advance over south Andaman Sea and adjacent southeast Bay of Bengal around
May 21 in association with the likely conditioning and deepening of southwesterly winds over the regionOther climatic and oceanic conditions
like favorable environment for convection, sea surface temperature levels are also favourable for consistent cloudiness over Andaman Sea and
adjoining locations of east-central and southeast Bay of Bengal around May 22
These conditions will assist in formation of a low pressure area over north Andaman Sea and adjacent east-central Bay of Bengal around May
22, the IMD said.Under the impact of these systems, Andaman and Nicobar Islands are most likely to witness light to moderate rainfall at
many locations with heavy to very heavy falls at separated places on May 22 and 23, it said.Odisha, West Bengal and adjoining Assam and
Meghalaya are most likely to receive light to moderate rainfall at the majority of places with heavy falls at separated locations are likely
to begin from evening of May 25
The strength of the rains will increase significantly, the IMD stated
It said the west coast, specifically Gujarat and Maharashtra, are still assessing the damage done by incredibly serious cyclonic storm
Tauktae.April-May, the pre-monsoon months, generally witness development of cyclones on the eastern in addition to the western coast.May
2020 saw two cyclones-- very cyclonic storm Amphan and serious cyclonic storm Nisarga-- which struck the eastern and western coast,
respectively.
