Stock market update: PSU bank stocks rise; PNB, SBI, BoB among gainers

NEW DELHI: Most PSU bank stocks were trading with gains during morning trade on Monday. The Nifty PSU Bank index was trading 0.52 per cent
up at 2,787 around 10:25 am. Punjab National Bank (up 1.10 per cent) was the top gainer in the PSU bank index. The state-run lender has put
on sale three non-performing assets to recover Rs 136 crore in dues from the borrowers
The three non-performing accounts (NPAs) or bad loans that have been put on sale are Gwalior Jhansi Expressways, SVS Buildcon and Shiva

Syndicate Bank (up 0.98 per cent), Bank of India (up 0.92 per cent), Oriental Bank of Commerce (up 0.53 per cent), IDBI Bank (up 0.52 per
cent), State Bank of India (up 0.52 per cent), Indian Bank (up 0.48 per cent), Bank of Baroda (up 0.48 per cent), Union Bank of India (up
0.43 per cent) and Andhra Bank (up 0.15 per cent) too found themselves among the gainers in the index. Meanwhile, Allahabad Bank (down 0.47
per cent) and Canara Bank (down 0.38 per cent) were the two stocks in the index that were incurring losses. A report by PTI said that public
sector banks are planning to tap the markets to raise more than Rs 50,000 crore this fiscal to shore up their capital base for business
growth and meeting regulatory global risk norms
Equity markets were in the green amid positive global cues. Buying was observed across sectors, led by pharma, bank and auto. All sectors
on the NSE were in the positive terrain. Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 43 points at 10,815, while the BSE Sensex was up 157 points at
35,815. Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 38 were trading in the green, while 12 were in the red
