NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a batch of pleas challenging the Bihar federal governments choice to perform a
caste survey in the state.A bench of justices BR Gavai and Vikram Nath stated there is no merit in the petitions and dismissed them with
liberty to the petitioners to approach the high court worried

How can we provide directions on how much appointment should be given to such and such caste? How will they (state) figure out how much
appointment is to be given to whom? Sorry, we cant issue such directions and cant entertain these petitions, the bench told the counsel for
the petitioners.The leading court, which was hearing three petitions on the issue consisting of one submitted by an NGO, said the
petitioners can approach the Patna High Court for a proper solution
All the petitions are dismissed as withdrawn with liberty to seek appropriate remedies in law, the bench ordered.On January 11, the top
court had said that it would use up the matter on January 20, after among the petitioners pointed out an immediate listing of the matter.One
of the PILs on the issue was submitted in the pinnacle court through supporter Barun Kumar Sinha looking for quashing of the alert provided
by deputy secretary, government of Bihar, for performing a caste survey in the state and to limit the authorities worried from carrying out
the exercise.The petitioner, Akhilesh Kumar, sought quashing of the notice dated June 6, 2022 released by the Bihar government.The plea
competed that the topic of the study falls in List 1 of the 7th Schedule of the Constitution and only the Centre has the power to hold the
exercise.The PIL declared that the notification broke Article 14 of the Constitution which attends to equality prior to law and equivalent
security under the law, including that the notification was illegal, approximate, unreasonable and unconstitutional
If the proclaimed function of the caste-based study is to accommodate the people of State suffering caste persecution, the distinction on
the basis of caste and country of origin is unreasonable and unjustified
None of these distinctions correspond with the ostensible purpose of the law, the petition said
