The chairman of the general public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), Janaka Ratnayake says he would look for legal action to
safeguard the independence of the commission.Addressing a media briefing in Colombo today (Jan
20), Ratnayake described that the PUCSL had initially decided to oppose the retrospective electrical energy tariff trek green-lighted by the
Cabinet of Ministers.However, following a meeting with President Ranil Wickremesinghe, 3 members have gone back on the choice taken at the
commissions board meeting and have actually consented to the Cabinet choice to carry out a retrospective electricity tariff hike.President
Wickremesinghe had actually called a conference with the other PUCSL members, leaving out Ratnayake.Now three PUCSL members are demanding
implementing the proposed electrical power tariff hike.Meanwhile, the National Council, which met the other day, worries that the Ceylon
Electricity Board (CEB) and the PUCSL need to discuss this matter and take a decision on tariff revision
