Zahad, born a woman, had conceived with partner Ziya after giving adoption a thought, only to discard the idea and take a chance with
temporarily halting hormone therapy and other gender affirmation procedures
Ziya is a professional dancer who also teaches dance while Zahad is an accountant.By the time Zahad and Ziya decided to try and conceive,
the former had already had breast removal surgery and doses of hormone therapy
State health minister Veena George spoke to Ziya over the phone and conveyed her wishes to the couple
The minister also directed the superintendent of the Institute of Maternal and Child Health at Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital
to provide all medical facilities to Zahad and the baby free
The hospital had constituted a panel to oversee the childbirth because of the potential complications.Dr Chandran said Zahad and the baby
would remain in hospital for four to five days
The baby is being fed milk from the in-house bank
