Collegium sends names for future CJs in four HCs

NEW DELHI: Nearly 25 years after the collegium system was produced through judgments, the Supreme Court collegium for the first time in
anticipation of future vacancies of chief justices in the high courts of Allahabad, Calcutta, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh, on Thursday
recommended names to fill the vacancies as and when they arise.The three-member collegium headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud
recommended the name of Justice Pritinker Diwaker, who hails from Chhattisgarh HC and currently senior-most judge in Allahabad HC, to the
Centre for his consultation as Chief Justice of Allahabad HC-- the post which will fall vacant when the federal government implements the
collegiums earlier suggestion to select incumbent CJ Rajesh Bindal as a SC judge.The Calcutta HC CJs post would fall vacant on March 30 on
retirement of present CJ Prakash Srivastava
The resolution said, In anticipation of the retirement of Justice Shrivastava, the collegium has decided to recommend Justice T S
Sivagnanam (moms and dad HC Madras however at present the senior-most judge of the Calcutta HC) for visit as CJ of Calcutta HC
Similarly, the collegium had on January 31 recommended Gujarat HC CJ Arvind Kumar for consultation as an SC judge
It suggested visit of Justice Sonia G Gokani as CJ of Gujarat HC as and when Justice Kumar ends up being a SC judge.In anticipation of job
in the post of Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh HC, which would fall vacant on March 10 with the retirement of incumbent CJ Arup K Goswami, the
collegium suggested consultation of Justice Ramesh Sinha of Allahabad HC as and when the job arises.The collegium advised previous CJI T S
Thakurs bro Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakurs name to the Centre for visit as CJ of Manipur HC, which is uninhabited after consultation of
Justice P V Sanjay Kumar as SC judge.
