Karnataka govt provides additional 100 acres land to Foxconn

BENGALURU: The Karnataka government, in the presence of chief minister Siddaramaiah, on Monday offered Foxconn, one of the largest
manufacturers of iPhones, an additional 100 acres of land at the Japanese Industrial Township for the Taiwanese telecom company to set up
their additional unit to the already proposed assembly line in the ITIR region spread across the Devanahalli and Dodballapura taluks.While
the Devanahalli unit is expected to roll out the final iPhone products, the Tumakuru proposal is likely to be for the manufacturing of the
Devanahalli plant is likely to have an investment of Rs 5,700 crore with jobs for 50,000 people , the industries department in a note said
in its initial stages and are progressing at rapid pace, with Karnataka optimistic of it bagging the new project as well.On Monday, the team
from FII met the CM along with industries minister M B Patil and IT-BT minister Priyank Kharge to discuss the proposal of setting up an
additional unit in Karnataka.At the meeting, it was proposed that the government was ready to provide the additional 100 acres of land in
of industries and added there exists coordination between the academia and industries
He said the government will take the initiative to provide the company the required human resources with the required skill set.Soon after,
the representatives were taken to the location for site inspection and provided the company heads a lay of the land which is available in
to Devanahalli for their additional unit.As a result, despite 500 acres proposed for the Japan industrial township, the state government is
looking to spare 100 acres from the location towards the Taiwanese company.At the meeting, M B Patil and Siddaramaiah assured Foxconn
representatives that the government was ready to provide all possible assistance for the company to further expand its investments outside
of the manufacturing of iPhones, including the semiconductor business if the company wishes to set up in Karnataka which has a suitable
ecosystem.
